The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is the first museum established in the province of Saskatchewan and the first provincial museum on the prairies. It is located on a lovely green space backing onto Wascana Lake in central Regina just north of the Saskatchewan Legislature.
The museum was founded in 1906 a year after the province itself was founded. It’s mandate is “collecting, preserving, interpreting, and sharing knowledge with communities.” To do so, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum has amassed a collection of over 3.5 million artifacts including 37,500 fossils. They also have a second replica of “Scotty” the T Rex on display at the T Rex Discovery Centre in Eastend.
The museum is a bit light on activities but does offer admission by donation along with free parking. The two floors of exhibits will nonetheless enterain and being in downtown Regina is a must see attraction for any capital city adventure.
