Fundy Geological Museum

People come to the Bay of Fundy to see the tides, and rightly so. But the Fundy region also boasts a trove of geological treasures many of which are on display at Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.

Parrsboro is located on the south shore of the Nova Scotia Peninsula (the triangular bit on your way to New Brunswick). It’s about 200 km from Halifax and 120 km from Moncton. So not exactly on the beaten path, but well worth the diversion.

The Fundy Geological Museum opened in 1993 and exhibits rocks, fossils, and even some dinosaurs while providing educational programs and guided tours for school kids and adults alike. The fossils and dinosaurs focus on the coal age, some 200 million years ago, when Nova Scotia looked a lot different than today. Rocks and minerals are mostly local and are sure to make collectors jealous.

We visited Fundy Geological Museum a decade ago. Unfortunately, may camera skills were quite limited back then and I didn’t come home with the best pictures. I’ll just have to go back, I guess, because it was a great little museum with terrific exhibits. I recommend staying at Five Island Provincial Park if you like camping and stunning geology.
