Lytton Recreational Panning Reserve Site 2

The Lytton Recreational Panning Reserve Site 2 is located in the village of Lytton, British Columbia. The panning reserve spans roughly two kilometers of the Fraser River at the confluence of the Thompson River. For reference, Lytton Site 1 is approximately six kilometers further upstream on the Fraser.

Lytton was devastated by wildfire in 2021. The recreational panning reserve remains open as the town slowly, but surely, rebuilds. There is a gas station and convenience store just north of town but otherwise few services are available at the time of writing. Skihist Provincial Park which has a first come, first serve campground is ten kilometers east on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The east side of the Fraser River is easiest to access, though there is a steep hill into the valley. A portion of the panning reserve is also bound by the CN main rail line which can require nimble feet to cross. The panning reserve extends to the west bank of the Fraser as well, however this requires a ferry crossing and navigation of First Nation’s lands to access.

There is gold to be found at Lytton Recreational Panning Reserve Site 2. It’s mostly powder and flake but abundant. When a good spot is found, mutliple flakes and flecks can be retrieved in each pan. Degree of success will vary by visit, but finding some gold is pretty much guaranteed.
