Blue Point Amethyst Mine is one of three fee dig mines near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The mine is located 62 km northeast of the city next to Big Pearl Lake and is neighbour to Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine, another pay-to-dig amethyst mine.
The mine is seasonal as are most things on the north shore of Lake Superior. The public is welcome daily from June through September. Cost to enter the mine is actually free, you only pay per bucket of material you choose to keep. And while the mine will provide buckets for collecting your amethyst, you won’t be able to take those with you so bring something to put your finds in when you leave.
Customers are advised to bring their own tools and dress appropriately when visiting Blue Point Amethyst Mine. This includes closed shoes, hammers/sledges, sturdy chisels, and safety glasses. As this is northern Ontario, you’ll also be wise to bring lots of bug spray, sun hats, and plenty of water. Snacks aren’t a bad idea either as you’ll be working hard getting hunting amethyst.
